The skillet comes already pre-seasoned from the factory using a special seasoning process. Even though the skillet comes pre-seasoned and is ready to go, you should know that some maintenance will be required to make this utensil last a lifetime. Follow some of the tips below:
- This skillet works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use.
- After cooking, clean the skillet with a stiff nylon brush and hot water.
- Never use soap and detergents to clean skillet.
- Never use the dishwasher to clean skillet.
- Never allow the skillet to air dry as rust can form.
- After washing, towel dry immediately and apply a light coating of oil while it is still warm and store it away for next use.
NEVER – Use soap or detergent on your iron cookware you’ll ruin the seasoning with soap. If you do have a sticking when the pan has cooled add hot water only, allow to soak for about 15 minutes or so and clean as usual. Properly cared cookware should last you a lifetime, be virtually non-stick and extremely low maintenance.
NEVER – Allow your cookware to air dry. This will cause rust and you will most likely need to scrub with steel wool, rinse, dry and re-season and you may to repeat this process many times to return it to a desirable condition.
USE AND CARE – While the skillet comes pre-seasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. After cooking, it’s recommended to clean with a stiff nylon brush and hot water. Using soap or the dishwasher is not recommended, and harsh detergents should never be used. Towel dry immediately cleaning and apply a light coating of oil to utensil while it is still warm.

Answer: Yes, I have a ceramic cook top and I use the waxy cleaner that polishes and helps prevent scratching and I’m careful to pick up and set down when I need to move the cast iron ware. If you slide it around, you’ll scratch up the glass surface. I’ve been using the cast iron for the whole 3 years I’ve had the cook top and it still looks new.
